For 10 long years I've avoided Tyler Perry and his repulsive looking Madea character in all forms. I don't picket his movies. I don't see his plays. I don't lookout man his tv shows or read his articles or watch his interviews. I don't wikipedia him. I don't IMDB or Google him. I don't give a flight fuck about him in whatsoever chapters because I KNEW what he was, even from far abroad. It only took me 30 seconds of sizing him up and judging him ten years ago to know that he is an opportunist. A scumbag, muckraking, bargain basement purveyor of the lowest common denominator. A man who should go on his knees and be fuck all thankful he…

Tyler Perry's Chinatown. Unsure if this 1 is in fact better than the others, as it seems to me, or if my brain is just turning to mush from watching an average of three Madea films a week for the past two weeks. Whatsoever the case, I genuinely had a good fourth dimension with this one -- Teyana Taylor's bit performance is inspired, the extended family drama strikes me equally at least moderately engaging, and honestly Perry got more laughs out of me with this rendition of Madea than he has in whatever other films in the serial. Feels like a play, but I liked that nigh it.

Don't cry for me; save your tears for the people that don't know Jesus
A slightly above average picture w some interesting themes and a wild ending, Madea's Big Happy Family is Perry at his most aggressive. It'south convoluted, needlessly specific, and overwhelming emotional in a funeral sequence that'due south as effective, if non more, than the finale of Sirk'due south rendition of Imitation of Life. Information technology'south a truly spiritual film, operating on levels unlike annihilation in mainstream Hollywood cinema and carrying a sense of earnestness that is often ignored in cinema. I don't know how Perry is able to convey the power and comfort faith can provide so much more than elegantly than his fellow Georgia Christian filmmakers the Kendrick bros, but… -
A homage to Joel Schumacher'sFalling Down was not on my bingo card for this film, only I've long learned not to underestimate Mr. Perry'south cultural lexicon.
EDIT: Issuing a rare "redaction" of this review afterward catching the back half again this morning time. As per my policy, I won't alter my rating until I do a real rewatch, simply this is at minimum a two.5 and a heart.

Non as bad every bit the other madea movies I've seen. But it isn't good either. I laughed a lot in the beginning but and so the mvoie kept going and having all these slow subplots in information technology. Kind of got ridiolus. Thankful I didn't desire to dice during the movie. It was manageable at best.

Still very melodramatic, just Madea'southward Big Happy Family unit managed to evoke some actual emotion from me about the importance of loving your family with Madea to requite anybody the hard truth about what matters about in life.
...and besides a neat appearance from Maury

Gets a half star bump for such a genuine portrayal of faith amidst unimaginable hardship, Tyler Perry's Madea'sLarge Happy Family unit is Perry at his nearly empathetic and funniest. I said it all in my first review but I have to point out just how bully Loretta Devine is here, such a moving portrayal that I was literally in tears past the final scene
Having kind of a crude day and actually needed this, glad to run into this hold up

information technology was, in fact, a sharp descent into excruciatingly bad.
the only joke in this that lands is one where it'southward the setup that's hilarious and the punchline ruins it. it's kind of impressive since I can't think of any other joke I've e'er seen like that. the residue is chronically unfunny and nearly every graphic symbol is irritating as shit or horribly unpleasant (except for the poor mother). even Madea isn't proficient in this (although it's somewhat interesting to note that she exhibits uncharacteristic restraint for well-nigh of this motion picture, seemingly as continuity given it takes place straight subsequently her having gone to jail). Tyler Perry seems to be apologising to men in this one, by making them hapless idiots…

''And the reason you so nasty, honey: you ain't forgave the man that raped you.
Admittedly, spectacularly atrocious.
Like the worst sitcom e'er made,
Abrasive in the farthermost.
Madea is barely even Madea anymore, there'south a cast of comedy side characters which are nothing but grating, and literally nil happens in the story. And i'chiliad non especially squeamish about the treatment of women in movies—I like Michael Bay, I like Mel Gibson, I like Sion Sono—but something nigh the manner women were written in Madea's Large Happy Family rubbed me wrong way.
The women in this film are all some combination of stupid, cruel, manipulative, and the victims of incestuous rape. Information technology's not that the female person characters are badly written—honestly,… -
"I don't like none of you. You make me sick, all y'all."
I have never seen anything out of the Madea franchise and I don't remember I've ever even seen anything with or from Tyler Perry. Then, I had never any idea what the fuck this whole matter is and I never planned on exploring this function of American civilisation. But my dear friend, Shawn, wanted to bear witness me this since he is so passionate most it and so I was gear up to let my homie guide me through a big part of his country's heritage and here we are.
To exist fair, there is a good concept in here about a problematic family unit existence called together because a family unit…
